Who's Getting What SuperPacks Anyway? - This October is the release of several SuperPacks containing several combinations of Spyro and Crash games. The question is which countries are getting which SuperPacks. IGN thinks the US will be getting Crash and Spyro Vol.1 and the Spyro SuperPack, while Wal*Mart says the US will get all 3 Crash and Spyro SuperPacks. The key to this dilemma may be in the available Box art pics you can find around the web. European GBA boxes have a style different from the North American ones. While NA uses the ESRB rating system European countries use various other rating systems.

North America

Box art: Spyro SuperPack
Spyro SuperPack
1. Season of Ice
2. Season of Flame
Box art: Crash SuperPack
Crash SuperPack
1. N-Tranced
2. Nitro Kart
Box art: Crash & Spyro SuperPack
Crash & Spyro SuperPack
1. Crash Purple
2. Spyro Orange
Europe
Box art: Crash & Spyro SuperPack Vol.1
Crash & Spyro SuperPack Vol.1
1. N-Tranced
2. Season of Ice
Box art: Crash & Spyro SuperPack Vol.2
Crash & Spyro SuperPack Vol.2
1. Nitro Kart
2. Season of Flame
Box art: Crash & Spyro SuperPack Vol.3
Crash & Spyro SuperPack Vol.3
1. Crash Fusion
2. Spyro Fusion

If you buy all 3 available in your area you end up with the same 6 games but in North America you have the option of getting mostly Spyro or mostly Crash. Two Games not included in any of the packs are Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs (Adventure) and Crash: The Huge Adventure (XS). AOR got the best reviews of all Spyro GBA games.

Preview and Video of Shadow Legacy at IGN - If you like RPGs and Spyro this will be for you. The video shows a game very much like the Golden Sun or Lunar series but you can jump and fight like in any platformer.

Shadow Legacy Screens - VUGames has 15 screens for Spyro's DS debut. This game looks a lot like A Hero's Tail.

Wednesday August 3 2005:

Spyro: Shadow Legacy Shadow Legacy art? - I found this at EBGames. Not sure if this is the actual final box art but looks pretty good. Looks like Spyro has been shipped across the hall to Sierra this time. They are taking preorders.

Source: EBGames

Spyro SuperPack? - In addition to or instead of or in different regions than the Crash/Spyro 2Paks VU is now releasing a Spyro: SuperPack which includes Season Of Ice and Season of Flame. Sounds like a recipe for product confusion.

Wednesday July 20 2005:

Spyro/Crash 2 Paks - Man news is slow. I'll talk about a silly thing VU is doing. They are creating a series of GBA cartridges that contain one Crash and one Spyro game each:
  • Vol1 = N-Tranced/Season Of Ice
  • Vol2 = Crash Nitro Cart/Season Of Flame
  • Vol3 = Fusion (Orange/Purple)

These were listed by Wal*Mart months ago but I'm board so I'm mentioning them now. Do you notice the lack of "Attack of the Rhynocs"? The most popular Spyro GBA game!

VUG still milks the Dragon - from this it sounds like VUG intends to still make Spyro games.

Saturday May 28 2005:

People say some silly things

GamesMainFrame:

"Vivendi Universal (VU) games has snagged the rights off of Sierra Entertainment for yet another Spyro-based game"
GamesIndustry:
"Vivendi Universal Games (VU Games) will bring Sierra Entertainment's SpyroTM Shadow LegacyTM, the newest installment of the 17 million-unit-selling Spyro franchise, to the Nintendo DSTM this Fall."
Though some Spyro games were published in the UK by Sierra (who is owned by VU) Spyro the Dragon has always belonged to Universal Interactive and therefore belongs to Vivendi Universal.

It's Official! - Spyro Shadow Legacy for NDS will be out this fall. Read about it here.

Few things:

  • "You'll also be able to trade collectible creatures" - Do I smell Pokemon?
  • "...the introduction of Spyro's magical abilities," - he's a dragon, his power is his breath. Let Bianca do the magic.
  • It's developed by Amaze Entertainment. I don't know anything about them but how many developers is Spyro going to go through?
  • And this says Spyro will use martial arts.

Say Goodbye to Crash and Spyro Adventure World - Candystand has removed Crash and Spyro Adventure World from their site. All links on this site will be removed.

Thursday April 14 2005:

Show me the Spyro! - No News today, just ranting. So far this year we have confirmation of future installments for Crash, Ratchet, Jak, and Sly but nothing since the the vague rumors of Spyro DS a few months ago. A Hero's Tail did well in 2004 and even some of the Insomniacs liked it. Where is the news of new Spyro! Maybe we will have to wait for E3?

Wednesday March 29 2005:

SONY must pay $91M for patent infringement, May make getting older Spyros harder. - From what I gather a US company says SONY stole their Dual Shock technology from them. Now Sony may not be allowed to import Dual Shock controllers and several games including Spyro 2 and 3.

Source: DIGIT

My View: I guess this company also sued Microsoft but instead of taking the defensive they Payed to license the technology. This may be another part of the conspiracy by the US government and Microsoft to keep Japanese games out of the US in a lame attempt to stimulate the US economy. The first part was when the US put MS up to task of creating the Xbox. :)

Monday February 21 2005:

More on Spyro DS - EBGames has removed Spyro DS but Wal*Mart is listing it now. All I got out of VUG is that a "Tactical RPG" seems "like a bit of an odd fit for our purple pal." But there is a Spyro game (or 2) in the works.

Thursday February 17 2005:

Spyro Tactical RPG? - A French gaming site, jeuxpo, is reporting that the next Spyro DS game will be a Tactical RPG. Though I've always wanted a Spyro RPG, I kinda wonder about this direction. There is still no official word from VUG.

Wednesday January 12 2005:

Happy New Year - A little late, Sorry. 2004 was an interesting year for Spyro. We finally got the Console Spyro we've been waiting for; Spyro: A Hero's Tail. Hopefully Eurocom will continue to improve on what they started, but I think they need a history lesson before they start.

After making an excellent trilogy of GBA games Digital Eclipse was cut from the series and Spyro was passed on to Vicarious Visions for the first Crash & Spyro crossover, the now infamous Orange and Purple project. I don't think VV really knew what to do with Spyro.

Some advice to Vicarious Visions: You can't just insert Spyro into any game.

And for Vivendi Universal: Don't kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

And finally 2004 is when Spyro Ripto quest was announced and was to be released. Ripto Quest is Spyro's second mobile(cell phone) game and appears to be the first to have any sort of adventure. KaoLink seems to know who makes the good portable Spyro games in that they ripped off the basic design and several elements from the Digital Eclipse trilogy. Still cannot say if this game is any good cause I cannot play it on my phone and there is no demo available. The game is Java based so it could be offered as a download for PC users at the same price as the phone version, but I guess nobody thought of that.

No news yet on new Spyro games coming out but be on the look out. There have been rumors of a Spyro Movie and there are new hand held systems available. Maybe this year we will see Spyro in DS or PSP. I'm not too sure about the future of this site. I'm running out of space and time to work on it. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this site over the last few years but especially to Phillip who has been sending content faster than I can update.
