Keys: There are 4 keys in the game for the 4 colors of chests.
The Yellow key opens all yellow chests, etc.
Each key is divided into 2 halves. One half of each key is obtained when you complete one of the four Agent 9 levels. The other half of each key is obtained when you complete one of the four Sgt. Byrd levels. These 8 levels are found in 8 different lands. Look for air conditioning vents.
Each Agent 9 mission requires you to find 4 colored keys as well. These keys are only used within the mission and have nothing to do with the key halves you get when you complete the mission.
Journal - Your journal is a notebook that Sparx finds in the Professor's lab, it will have 6 or 7 pages and 3 tabs when you first have access to it. When you recieve your first quest a forth tab will be addedGeneral Gemfinding Tips:
- Be aware of which lands you are missing Gems in. If you are not check the Journal.
- Be aware of what areas are part of which lands. Check the list.
- Use the Map. Press L+R to look at the map of an area. Not all areas have maps. Look for large parts that have not been revealed or are black. Try to get to those parts, there may be gems there. You may not be able to get to some parts of the map.
- Get all the enemies. Enemies in Spyro's and Agent 9's areas drop gems. Make sure you get the manhole rhynocs. Enemies in Sgt. Byrd's areas do not.
- Check out all Transporters in Sgt Byrd Levels and all pipes in Agent 9 levels.
- Take it to the wall. In Agent 9 and Sgt. Byrd levels make sure you see the walls floor and ceiling of all areas. Gems may be hidden just out of sight.
- Open all the chests. Some Chests have items, some have Gems.
- Every Land has one of Moneybag's Vaults and one Virtual Hideaway. Many of the vaults have chests in them. Visit them again to see if there are any chests you missed last time because you may not of had the key.
