When one of them falls on the ground you can pick it up, just walk over it, and shoot [B] it back at him. This will freeze him. While he is frozen charge [R] him. Do this 3 times.
The ice balls melt after sitting on the ground for a while but you can hold them as long as you need to.
After you defeat Crush he reveals some of Ripto's plan. Ripto has almost all the gems he needs to complete his volcanic lair.
